Driving through the pictures Waboomskraal Valley with its Hops fields and apple plantations one’s heart is immediately at peace with the surrounding beauty restoring hope to the soul. The wooden cabins were designed and built to cohere with our local pine forest and fully embrace natures flow through colours and aromas produced by the surrounding fynbos and mountain streams. Situated on 500 hectares of mountainous beauty the cabins started cultivating the endless opportunities this property has to offer. More cabins were introduced in 2004 providing quality accommodation for more than 70 guests. A large swimming pool overlooking the fynbos mountains together with a communal braai area and pizza oven made it ideal for large family occasions. A spacious children’s play area was soon added to the entertainment.
The lodge with all the different aspects and activities it has to offer make it an unforgettable family experience. Highlands Lodge miraculously survived 7 mountain fires sweeping through the valleys of the Outeniqua Mountains humbling us with thanksgiving and new appreciation for the unique experience nature has to offer. Our deepest gratitude and respect go out to all the fire fighters that assisted us throughout the years right up to the last fire in November 2018.
