Our timber log cabins are built on an evenly-sloped side of the mountain blending in with the surrounding fynbos hills and King Proteas growing an arms-length between the cabins. Two natural mountain springs supply the entire terrain including Te-eeT Restaurant, Te-piK Café, all 16 log cabins, and the swimming pool unlocking an appreciation for the clean beauty of nature and the valuable commodity that clean fresh water ought to be.
Each cabin has their own private balcony with mesmerizing views offering couples and newlyweds an unforgettable experience. Freestanding and elevated off the ground, these cabins have an inside fireplace creating the perfect atmosphere together with a spacious lounge area flowing out onto the balcony. The large bedroom with on-suite bathroom gives couples the experience of quality living in the heart of mountains.
The internal timber finishes give a warm ambiance capturing quality time spent away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. With natural light shimmering through the trees and beautiful views framed by each window you can sit back and absorb all the fragrances the fynbos has to offer.
The kitchen is well-equipped offering couple’s effortless preparation of snacks and fresh platters to be enjoyed on the balcony or at the pool.
For the warmer evenings there is an outside braai area (barbeque).

Raised slightly above the ground and overlooking the lodge couples can start unwinding and fully embrace the overwhelming stature of the pine forest surrounding the cabins. This 6-Sleeper Cabin has 2 bedrooms – a double bed in the one bedroom, and two bunk beds in the other. The two bunk beds sleep four people, preferably young adults and children. There is a shared bathroom with a shower.

Our story begins July 1991 with Austrian influence captivated through warm wooden cabins in the breath-taking Waaboomskraal Hops Valley and Fynbos Hills of the Outeniqua Mountains in the heart of the Garden Route. Driving through the beautiful Waaboomskraal Valley with its hops fields and apple orchards one’s heart is immediately at peace with the surrounding beauty restoring hope to the soul.
The timber log cabins were designed and built to cohere with our local pine forest and fully embrace natures flow through colours and aromas produced by the surrounding Fynbos and mountain streams. Situated on 4480 hectares of mountainous beauty the cabins started cultivating the endless opportunities this property has to offer.
Additional timber log cabins were introduced in 2004 providing quality accommodation for up to 50 guests. A large swimming pool filled with mineral spring water overlooks the Fynbos mountains adjacent to a spacious children’s play area. Our Mountain Retreat together with network of hiking trails and different activities make it an unforgettable family experience.
Highlands Lodge miraculously survived 7 mountain fires sweeping through the valleys of the Outeniqua Mountains humbling us with thanksgiving and new appreciation for the unique experience nature has to offer. Our deepest gratitude and respect go out to all the fire fighters that assisted us throughout the years right up to the last fire in November 2018.
